The legacy of one little bird.

Born from the love of one little bird. Built to protect thousands more.

Where every act of kindness takes flight.

Bilbo the Green-cheeked Conure resting beneath a soft blanket
Bilbo — the little bird behind our big purpose.

His wings carried love. They carried laughter. They carried hope.

A small life with an extraordinary impact.

Wings of Kindness Foundation began with Bilbo, a tiny Green-cheeked Conure whose personality filled a home with curiosity, laughter, mischief and unconditional love. Bilbo was never “just a bird”. He was family—a bright little soul who showed us that the smallest wings can leave the biggest footprints on a heart.

When Bilbo crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly before his third birthday, his absence left an enormous silence. Yet within that grief lived a powerful question: what could be done with all the love that remained?

The answer was Wings of Kindness Foundation—not simply as a way to remember how Bilbo left, but as a way to honour how beautifully he lived. His life became the first Feather in a growing movement of kindness for vulnerable, displaced, neglected and injured birds.

“What will you do with all the love that remains?”

Standing beside the people who protect birds.

Across South Africa, sanctuaries, rescue centres and rehabilitation centres open their doors every day to birds who have nowhere else to go. Their dedicated teams feed frightened birds, nurse injured wings, rebuild trust, provide veterinary care and create safe spaces where recovery can begin. Their work is extraordinary, but the need is often greater than the resources available. We raise funds to help registered organisations continue this vital work.

01

Nourishment

Helping provide the species-appropriate food rescued birds need to regain strength.

02

Veterinary Care

Supporting essential treatment and medical care for birds on their journey to recovery.

03

Safer Aviaries

Helping sanctuaries create secure, enriching spaces where rescued birds can thrive.

We do not simply ask for a donation. We invite you to Gift a Feather.

A Feather is a practical act of kindness with a real destination. It can help fill a food bowl, contribute towards veterinary care, assist with emergency transport, repair an aviary or support the patient work of rehabilitation. No Feather is too small to matter.

Gift a Feather
One Feather can change a day.
1,000 Feathers can transform a sanctuary.
Millions of Feathers can change a nation.

More than supporters. Part of the story.

Keepers of the Flock believe every bird deserves dignity, every sanctuary deserves support and every act of kindness deserves to be shared.

“Love knows no species.
Compassion knows no boundaries.”

Voices for the flock.

Our ambassadors bring their time, talents and personal love of birds to Wings of Kindness. Through sanctuary volunteering, storytelling, events and fundraising, they help connect more people with our purpose.

Anré Bouguenon, Wings of Kindness brand ambassador

Anré Bouguenon

Actress. Bird mom. Hands-on volunteer.

Anré is a South African actress and performer with an ACTL Diploma in Musical Theatre, earned with distinction through Trinity College London. Her screen work includes Sterlopers, Meisies Wat Fluit and Binnelanders. She brings her love of storytelling and connecting with people to a cause that is deeply personal to her.

A devoted bird mom to three birds, Anré also volunteers at Brainy Birds twice a week, helping care for rescued parrots. That hands-on experience gives her an understanding of the patience, compassion and daily commitment sanctuary care requires, and makes her a natural link between Brainy Birds and Wings of Kindness.

As an ambassador, Anré will welcome supporters at foundation events, raise awareness of rescued birds’ needs and encourage responsible bird ownership. She also plans to take part in selected fundraising events as a runner for the cause, putting her energy into long-term sanctuary support.

Kindness in every visit, every event and every kilometre.

Charlie Bouguenon, Wings of Kindness brand ambassador

Charlie Bouguenon

Actor. Bird dad. Endurance enthusiast.

Charlie is a South African actor and storyteller with more than two decades of experience across theatre, television and film. His work spans local stages and international productions, including Jersey Boys, Binnelanders, Bloodshot and Warrior. Connecting with audiences is at the heart of his craft.

Away from the stage and screen, Charlie is the proud bird dad of three companion birds. Their place in his everyday life gives him a personal appreciation of the joy and responsibility of caring for birds. Through public appearances, storytelling and awareness campaigns, he hopes to introduce Wings of Kindness to new audiences and inspire meaningful support.

A keen cyclist, runner and swimmer, Charlie also plans to put his love of endurance sport to work for birds in need. Drawing on his experience of long-distance and mountain-bike challenges, he aims to connect sporting communities, families, donors and volunteers with the foundation’s fundraising efforts.

Storytelling with purpose. Movement that makes a difference.

Je-ani Swiegelaar, Wings of Kindness brand ambassador

Je-ani Swiegelaar

Actress. Writer. Ironman finisher. Bird mom.

Je-ani is a Namibian-born South African actress and writer who studied drama at the University of Pretoria. Her career spans theatre, television and film, including her long-running role as Naomi in Binnelanders, which she began in 2012, as well as Sak & Pak and My F*k, Marelize!.

Charity is at the heart of Je-ani’s work. She has supported the Theatre Benevolent Fund, church, school and community fundraising projects, and a celebrity charity edition of Wie Word ’n Miljoenêr. She has also slept in the street to raise donations for blankets for homeless people. She brings that same readiness to help to Wings of Kindness, turning attention into practical support for vulnerable birds and their carers.

An endurance athlete, Je-ani has completed Ironman 70.3 events in Nelson Mandela Bay and Durban. In April 2026, she finished the full Ironman African Championship in Gqeberha. Her Ironman journey also helped raise donations to keep an old age home open.

Je-ani supports Wings of Kindness away from the racecourse throughout 2026. After fulfilling her existing commitments, she plans to begin racing for the foundation in June 2027, representing Wings at selected endurance events, including an Ironman 70.3, to raise awareness and funds.

At home, Je-ani is a loving mom to two African Greys: one she raised from a baby and another she adopted. She knows the patience, trust and lifelong care birds need, making their wellbeing a cause close to her heart.

Her heart has wings.
